Subject: RETRO | Bavaria 36 Top 10 for 2000
(Posted on Apr 28, 2012 at 02:16PM by debbie baronit)

In 2000, we had the the first Bavaria 36 to arrive to North America delivered to Annapolis in anticipation of displaying it at the upcoming Annapolis Boat Show. We'd put our applications in to magazines for their best boat awards.  This model was awarded as a Top 10 winner by SAIL magazine.  Opening comment on the winning review stated, "All of SAIL's judges rated the sailing ability of the Bavaria 36 as above average or superior."  We couldn't have agreed more!

We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Cliff McNeely of ACM Signs yesterday. Cliff, or "Cliffy" as we affectionately called him was our go-to man for boat graphics and names. After helping customers choose fonts and colours, he would zoom down to Granville Island on his scooter and apply the names and hailing ports. Cliff would always carry a big smile and laughter seemed to come easily. We will miss you Cliff.

New Sewage Discharge Regulations - May 5th 2012 Deadline

Sewage Discharge regulations, introduced in 2007 with a five-year moratorium on enforcement, will be in effect and enforced as of May 5th. Fines are $250 and will apply for non-compliance.

The following highlights specifics of the Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and for Dangerous Chemicals that are important for members to know and to share with their customers. Additional highlights can be viewed at: Updated Sewage Bulletin

  1. All boats fitted with a toilet must have and use a holding tank and it must have a means of shore discharge. Portable toilets are acceptable but they must be attached to the vessel and have a means of dockside pump out.
  2. An approved treatment device that meets the strict coliform count maximum set out in the regulations is a permitted option. Members should know that this option may be considered costly and impractical.
  3. Pump-out facilities must be used where available.
  4. In the event that a pump-out facility is not available, there are conditions under which untreated waste may be discharged:
    1. The discharge is made at a distance of at least three nautical miles from shore while the vessel is en route at the fastest possible speed, or
    2. If it is not possible to meet the requirements of sub paragraph (i) because the vessel is located in waters that are less than 6 miles from shore to shore, the discharge is made while the vessel is en route at a speed of at least four knots or, if the discharge is not feasible at that speed, the discharge is made:
      1. During an ebb tide, while the vessel is en route at the fastest feasible speed and into the deepest waters that are located farthest from shore, or
      2. While the vessel is en route at the fastest feasible speed and into the deepest and fastest moving waters that are located the farthest from shore

We are pleased to announce that Simon Cox, Vancouver Island Regional Manager for Yacht Sales West has recently acquired his "Certified Professional Yacht Broker" (CPYB) accreditation.

"I love sailing.  I love people.  And, I love yachts.  My passion for working with people and their boats has driven my success to date.  I joined the Yacht Sales West team because we represent and service the yachts I would be proud own and sail myself, and because I am empowered to stand behind my clients to ensure they receive a good value and proper service for their investment.  I have helped many people buy and sell yachts over the years and made a lot of friends along the way.  I am proud to be on the Board of Directors of the BCYBA and to be a Certified Professional Yacht Broker.   Recognized associations such as these promote a standardized code of ethics and professionalism that grant me access to the resources to ultimately provide better service and protection for my clients." said Simon.

"I grew up sailing dinghies in Cadboro Bay and cruising the Gulf Islands.  The salt is still in my blood.  Swiftsure, Southern Straits, RIPS Race Week or racing around the buoys in Maple Bay, I love the camaraderie and competition of a good yacht race.  My wife and I and our nine-month-old son enjoy exploring new favourite spots in the Gulf Islands.  Sometimes, nothing beats a summer evening on the bay in our little day sailor." concluded Simon. In 2010,

Simon moved back to Vancouver Island to better serve the needs of our clients from the Island.  To date he has assisted dozens of buyers and sellers from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands to achieve their goals.
